The PC.net update for March 24, 2015 - Review: NeatReceipts Portable Scanner and Software. The other complaint I have is that I rarely, if ever, get the document to go in straight. Want to reorganize them. You can also combine scans, which is great for dining checks that often include two separate receipts. The Neat software includes. If your total experience with scanners is with the flatbed type that sits atop all-in-one printers, you may be excused for thinking scanners are not all that exciting. Given the slow, awkward, one-sheet-at-a-time way these devices perform, it’s hard to imagine using them to convert a stack of documents into scanned images. That’s why we have document scanners. These devices can dispense with paper at speeds of around 25 pages per minute. While they can’t scan intact pages from a book, they are otherwise the perfect solution for getting rid of the clutter in your office. The two most popular lines of document scanners are from Neat and Fujitsu. Their top-of-the-line desktop machines are Neat’s ($400) and Fujitsu’s ($495). My cloud app for mac not showing backup thumbnail. I have the same issue with pictures not showing up when I access my drive using the WD 2go App. I had WD Photos already loaded when I was using MioNet and now when I try to access my drive with WD photos I receive the “Device is offline (668)” message. Both feature new mobile scanning options. The hardware weigh-in The ScanSnap iX500 and NeatDesk both claim similar specs. They scan at up to 600 dpi resolution, duplex and in color, with speeds of up to 25 pages per minute. Both automatically adjust to different sized papers in a single stack. However, in my testing, the iX500 consistently out-performed the NeatDesk. The iX500 often scanned at a spectacular 30 ppm, while NeatDesk handled the same paper stacks at only 11 ppm. NeatDesk also had more frequent problems with paper jamming or twisting in the feeder. In contrast, the iX500 did not fail even once. Fujitsu explains this success is due to hardware improvements in the iX500, notably a gear-driven spring-loaded roller and an “ultrasonic multi-feed” sensor. Scanning goes wireless The newest and “hottest” features for both scanners deal with wireless communication to mobile devices. The approach each scanner takes, however, could hardly be less similar. Tap NeatMobile’s Scan button to take a photo and send it as a scanned image to your Mac. NeatDesk With the iOS app, you can take a photo and wirelessly send it to your Mac. If the photo is of a text document, Neat’s OCR processing software kicks in and analyzes it. Going in the other direction, scans stored on your Mac sync to NeatMobile on all your iOS devices. NeatMobile accomplishes all of this by shunting your data through its new service. The service requires that you open an account and pay a minimum of $6 per month. In my testing, transferring a photo from an iPhone to a Mac worked well. However, I could not get the camera to focus in the Neat app, which sometimes resulted in photos too blurry for OCR processing. Going the other way, the mobile app’s ability to view scans from a Mac was inconsistent. Sometimes a selected scan loaded quickly. Extensions for chrome mac pro. Other times, loading stalled with a persistent spinning sundial. Even if everything worked perfectly, the service doesn’t seem worth paying a monthly fee—unless you use it very frequently. For example, iCloud users can almost as conveniently transfer photos from their iPhone to their Mac via Photo Stream, and import them to Neat if desired. Neat plans to add more features to NeatMobile later this year, including editing on an iOS device of data extracted from documents “scanned” with the camera. Send images from ScanSnap Connect to Dropbox, Evernote, and beyond.

Movieboy23, Fast, easy and not too frustrating method to learn typing I’m embarrassed to admit that I was still hunting and pecking at the keyboard at the age of 26. I was determined to become a touch typist and went searching through the App Store to find something that could quickly help me learn how. Time Machine with an external hard drive (WD My Passport for Mac 1 TB). 8/22/11 1:33 pm MacMost: External Hard Drive Won’t Eject Normally I do manual, not automatic, Time Machine backups, while running Lion and using an external hard drive attached to my iMac. When the backup completes, I right-click on the icon representing the hard drive and select ‘Eject G-Drive Mini’. However, then I get the message ‘The disk “G-Drive Mini” wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may be using it’ It then gives me the option of doing a ‘Force Eject’ of this drive, which I then sometimes do. But my question for the forum is: how can I find out what program may be using the G-Drive Mini? Since it is done with the time machine backup and since I have closed that preference pane, I doubt that Time Machine is still using the external drive. But how can I find out for sure? —– Richard Fuhr. 8/25/11 @ 9:23 am Indeed, it is Spotlight indexing the drive. I checked via the following Terminal command on August 22 sudo lsof| grep Volumes| grep Spotlight and saw many entries involving mds ( which is the metadata server program that manages the indexing) and /Volumes/G-DRIVE Mini/.Spotlight-V100 I have checked from time to time, and the indexing has been going on continuously ever since then, including now, which is three days later. Is this normal? Should I just let it continue, even if it takes a few more days? What have others’ experiences been? 7/21/12 @ 12:44 am I have the same problem with a WD drive that I only use for pictures – not Time Machine or any application at all. Nothing I do will eject the disk, literally nothing – and I’ve even dug around and tried using Terminal commands without success (admittedly I’m no expert). If I try to restart or shut down the MacBook Pro (running Snow Leopard), it hangs and I have to do a hard restart. Tried using Disk Utility to repair, but it just hangs. I was able to unmount one of the partitions after using the killall Finder command, but the other partition is ‘stuck’. Can’t drag it to the trash, can’t Ctrl + Click. No error messages, it just doesn’t eject. If I unplug it, I get the you’ve ejected the the disk improperly etc. 7/22/12 @ 7:42 pm After working on this for three days (seriously dropping another $100 would be easier) it occurred to me that it might be related to the Trash. Every time I plug in that drive, things show up in trash – maybe there was a delete event that is/was getting it hung up for some reason? I’d deleted a ton of photos just before all this started happening. BTW Gary, if Disk Utility is telling me what I think it’s telling me, then it was originally formatted as a DOS partition. I think when I first got the drive I needed to pull files of my PC to the Mac and since the Mac could see DOS, etc. But I plugged it into my PC today and while it acknowledges the existence of the ‘new hardware’ it never shows up under My Computer so I couldn’t access it. Tried to delete and reformat last night and all it did was hang the MBP and get it really hot. 7/22/12 @ 8:28 pm Okay, so I can’t erase the drive and I can’t repartition the drive. I can access it and copy stuff from it, but obviously something is deeply wrong. The only way I can unmount it without hanging my whole system (which then requires a full push the power button to shut down) is to simply unplug it. I really like to use this drive as a back up for my photos and to use it to edit photos before copying them back to the main back up drive. I know that the.fseventsd file or volume is causing me issues, but I can’t seem to figure out how to fix it. Should I just call it dead and get a new one? 7/29/12 @ 11:11 am Definitely something wrong with the drive. I’ve tried using every option under Disk Utility to reformat (it hangs on unmounting – then becomes unresponsive) or erase (hangs on unmounting) the drive. Dug around my system log and found that every time the 2nd partition was accessed, fseventsd not responding or out of sync with volume. I think something happened in regards to the trash. I deleted a bunch of pictures off of the drive and didn’t empty the trash until way later after I’d already unplugged the drive. It’s my only guess at this point, but the hubby was tired of me jabbering about the problem and just bought me a new drive. I’m still wanting to work out the issues with the problematic drive, and will post if I get any success. Thanks for your input Gary! 10/31/12 @ 12:09 pm I have a Drobo S with 11 partitions I use for nightly backups. Three will dismount with no problems. Eight almost always give me this problem. The ONLY difference I can find (using sudo lsof) is that UserEventAgent has established a link to the Applications directory in each partition. This happens even when I logon with no apps running. This causes me to think some background assistance app automatically gets fired up when I log on and makes the connection but it is limited to eight. Unfortunately, I don’t know what is doing it or how to find it. I have found simply logging off and disconnecting the drive, even though sometimes I get that nasty disconnect message, doesn’t really seem to do any harm. John Burek The Best NAS (Network Attached Storage) Devices for 2019 Why buy a network-attached storage (NAS) device? To give a pool of users you choose remote access to large amounts of your data. We've tested the top models to tell you which one will work best for your home or small business. Unfettered File Access From Anywhere In this age of high-resolution photos and near-constant video capture, the storage space in your PCs and mobile devices fills up faster than ever. While you can certainly use an external hard drive for offloading and backing up files from your PC (and by extension, from your ), if you disconnect the hard drive and leave it in your office, you won't be able to get to those files from home, and neither will anyone else. There are ways to allow other users to share and access the files on your hard drive, but they may be challenging to implement, or carry security risks. Instead, consider a good network-attached storage (NAS) device. As its name implies, a NAS is high-capacity storage that connects to your home or office network so that you and other users you designate can access your files from mobile devices and PCs without plugging in to the drive. Here's what you need to know to choose the right NAS. What Can You Do With a NAS? Once you decide that you need to store files on a network drive, you then need to figure out what you mean to do with them, in order to determine what kind of NAS you need. For example, sharing access to Office files like spreadsheets and Word documents with your coworkers is a simple job for a NAS. If you're using the NAS to back up your laptops overnight, that's pretty straightforward, as well. But if you're serving HD videos over your home network to two, a, and your smart TV, all at the same time, you'll want a NAS with higher specifications for memory, processor, and network capabilities. You'll also need a more powerful NAS if you want to store big media libraries, like a collection of 100,000 stock photos, for your graphic arts studio. Like any computer peripheral, the features offered by the various NAS units vary greatly to meet these different demands. So you'll need to understand the terms and features before you go shopping. NAS Drives: Buying Basics Since a NAS device is, at the simplest level, just a container for a hard drive or drives (with some added intelligence), the number one spec for any NAS unit is its potential storage capacity, determined by the number of drive bays it includes. Most consumer-grade and home-office NAS units have one or two bays, while models designed for the office have four or more. But that's not an absolute guideline. We don't generally recommend NAS drives with just a single bay, unless they are to be used strictly for backing up data that will also reside on computers on the network. That's because of the lack of redundancy out-of-the-box. (Some single-bay NAS drives will allow you to attach a second NAS device or an external hard drive, to that end.) You don't want the only copy of your data residing on just one drive on the network. Also, the drives in these single-bay devices tend not to be user-accessible, if the NAS ships with a drive pre-installed. How to backup your Mac with Time Machine. We have a step-by-step guide to backing up with Time Machine here, but essentially you just need to do the following. Plug in hard drive or SSD. FonePaw - Solution - Backup - Backup Mac with or without Time Machine By Carrie Murray, Wednesday, February 07, 2018 This guide presents you the ways to backup MacBook Air/Pro or iMac to external hard drive with or without Time Machine. I feel old saying this, but having used computers since before external hard drives existed, I can say with certainty that buying a hard drive is easier today than it’s ever been before. For traditional drives, prices are low, options are numerous, and capacities are so high that your only choices are “enough space,” “more than enough space,” and “way more than enough space.” I could point you towards a and end this article without another paragraph. Since Apple doesn’t even sell a Mac with that much disk space, you could back up five (or more) computers to that drive without running out of room. Or you could store a decade worth of digital photos alongside a giant media library. But buying an external hard drive isn’t necessarily that simple. There are a bunch of factors worth considering before making a purchase, including everything from reliability to portability, design, capacity, speed, and connectivity. Some hard drives are really cheap but have a higher chance of failing after a year or two of heavy use. So in this How-To, I’m going to discuss the big issues you need to consider, and guide you towards the best external hard drive for your needs Quick Overview Most hard drives are guaranteed to work for one to two years no matter what you do with them, ranging from occasional backups to continuous video streaming. They’ll generally last much longer if you don’t use them every day. However — and this is really important — if you keep a typical drive mechanism running 24 hours each day for two years, it’s going to burn out. Hard drive longevity used to be measured with an estimate of “Mean Time Before Failure” (MTBF). Each year has 61,320 hours, so a drive with a MTBF of 300,000 hours would promise to last 4.9 years if actively used 24 hours each day. Desktop drives typically promised higher MTBFs than laptop drives, but there were exceptions. Unfortunately, MTBF numbers were only predictions — and often inaccurately high. Consumers complained. So drive makers switched to a different but even less useful metric: Annualized Failure Rate (AFR), which estimates the percentage of total drives made that will fail in a year due to manufacturing defects. All an AFR of “0.73%” suggests is that 7,300 of 1,000,000 drives will likely develop problems in year one due to defects rather than abuse. That low percentage may seem reassuring, but it obscures the reality that heavy drive use increases failures over time, and some drives are much better-suited to heavy use than others. My advice: purchase your drive with a specific purpose in mind. If you’re backing up precious photos, home videos, or important files, buy a name brand, desktop-sized hard drive from a company with a track record of reliability, and pay a little more for it. It doesn’t really matter how the drive looks, just that it will work for a long time. But if you’re just using a drive to store apps, games, or iTunes movies that you can easily re-download at any time, or only intermittently turn a drive on for backups, you can feel comfortable going with something cheaper, more portable, or fancier-looking. Capacity + Pricing It’s easy to pick the right hard drive capacity these days: most external drives now offer at least as much space as a standard Mac (1TB) — and there are — and you can get an. Most people will find that that 4TB is more than enough to hold years of accumulated photos, media files, and data, but there’s no wrong answer to the capacity question: it’s mostly a matter of personal preference right now. That said, there are sweet spots. Expect to pay around,. How to insert a xref into paperspace in autocad lt for mac 2018. Notably, all of the monochrome models we looked at were laser printers, designed for rapid output of large amounts of text and/or black and white images. Even the very best inkjets struggle to produce text that's as sharp (particularly at sizes below 12 point), and when they do, they run much slower because they're on a “high resolution” setting. Should you buy a single or multifunctional printer? In general, this is an easy question to answer. If you can find a quality color printer with fax, scanning, and copying capabilities for the same price as a printer without those functions, the decision is a no-brainer. However, some situations exist in which you might prefer a single-function printer. Consider the following: • If you want photo-realistic output of high quality, you almost certainly want a specialist machine that focuses solely on the task at hand. • A printer with a built-in scanner would probably serve the needs of most consumers, but if you require high-resolution scans for trade printing or graphic displays, a machine dedicated entirely to high-resolution prints could be your best bet. • Business owners might prefer a more robust single-function unit that can consistently handle their heavy output demands. This is always going to be a difficult question to answer, and even the BestReviews lab testers had differing opinions. However, all agreed that your final choice should depend largely on what you intend to use the printer for. In the early days of home printers, the choice between inkjet and laser was rather straightforward. Back then, laser printers created images with superior detail, but the machines were prohibitively expensive. Inkjets were far more affordable, but the final product wasn’t nearly as sharp. 2 days ago - What's the best printer for Mac, iPad and iPhone you can buy? > Canon Pixma TS8050. > Canon Pixma iP2850. > Epson Expression Premium XP-640. > HP Officejet 3830. > HP OffficeJet 7510. > Epson Ecotank ET-2500. 4 days ago - CNET chooses the best printers for homes, dorms, and offices. Almost all can communicate wirelessly with your smartphone or tablet. Many offer WiFi so you can share the printer with other users. And, as we've seen, scanning, copying, and faxing are common. Here are some notable “other” features you might be interested in: • Paper tray capacity: If you do a lot of printing, a large-capacity paper tray comes in handy. • Automatic feeding: If you print lots of envelopes or cards, automatic feeding of multiple sizes is useful. • Automatic duplexing: This feature is great for those who want to execute rapid double-sided printing. • Borderless printing: This is great if you want to print lots of photos, but you should check the print sizes available before making a purchase. • Ink refill subscription program: A program such as this could save you money, but we urge consumers to think about their usage patterns before choosing a printer with this feature. It’s not necessary for everyone. • Testing suggests that some images created by cheap replacement ink fade in as little as three months. This may be extreme, but it’s a known danger of buying remanufactured cartridges. • Ink purchased directly from the printer manufacturer may cost more, but the images rendered from it could last longer. The reason: this ink will probably be part pigment (the black) and part dye (the colors). • If you want your photo images to retain their richness for years, consider a specialist photo printer and the corresponding ink and paper. Introduction This tutorial describes the options and commands available for dimensioning drawings and how to use them. The correct use of AutoCADs dimension tools is the key to producing clear and concise measured drawings. If you just need to quickly find a description of the various dimension commands, click on the appropriate button on the QuickFind toolbar below. AutoCAD provides a whole range of dimensioning tools which can be used to quickly dimension any drawing without the need for measurement. Dimensioning in AutoCAD is automatic; lines, arrows and text are all taken care of by the dimension commands. AutoCAD dimensions are special blocks which can easily be edited or erased as necessary. AutoCAD provides lots of control over the way dimensions look. Using a system similar to text styles, dimension styles allow you to design dimensions so that they look just the way you want them to. For example, the illustration above shows two different dimension styles. The one on the left is the default style known as STANDARD. If you do not create a style of your own or modify the standard style, all dimensions will look like this. The dimension line has arrow heads and the dimension text is positioned above the line and is drawn using the current text style. The dimension on the right has been drawn using a new style. The arrows have been changed to obliques, the vertical alignment of the text has been centred and the current text style has been changed. There are lots of dimension commands which include facilities for indicating tolerances and alternate units dimensioning. However, this tutorial aims to cover the most common commands for general use and constitutes an introduction to dimensioning with AutoCAD. If you would like to learn more about dimensions, refer to the AutoCAD user manual. AutoCAD divides dimensions into four main categories: Linear, Radial, Ordinate and Angular. For the purposes of this tutorial we will only consider some of the commands within the Linear, Radial and Angular categories. When you create dimensions, AutoCAD automatically creates a new layer called 'Defpoints'. This is a special layer which cannot be deleted or renamed. AutoCAD uses this layer to store dimension information and you can effectively ignore it. (see for more information on layers) When working with dimensions it is very important that line origins are picked accurately so that the resulting measurement and text are correct. Always use an Osnap to pick dimension line origins. Most AutoCAD designers use layers to manage their different drawing object types. Drawing annotation objects such as notes, dimensions, multi-leaders and hatching are placed on different layers than the actual part objects. May 27, 2011 - You may have objects on the wrong layer–in fact, you may not want to even keep the layer those objects are on. The solution is the LAYMRG. Daisy app for mac. Mac install beautifulsoup for python 3. If you have a lot of dimensioning work to do, it will be worth using a running Osnap. Running object snaps are set using the Osnap Settings dialogue box. To display this dialogue box type DDOSNAP at the keyboard or select Tools Object Snap Settings from the Pull-down menu. There is also a keyboard short-cut; you can display the Osnap Settings dialogue box simply by hitting the F3 key. This tutorial is not designed as a reference for dimensioning conventions. If you wish to learn more about dimensioning conventions, consult BS 308: Part 2. Selecting Dimension Commands Selecting and working with the dimension commands in AutoCAD R14 is much easier than in previous versions. All commands can be accessed from the keyboard and now most commands are also available from the Dimension pull-down menu and the Dimension toolbar. The Dimension toolbar is particularly useful because it places all the dimension commands a single mouse click away. Since the Dimension toolbar is not displayed by default you will need to enable it from the Toolbars dialogue box. To display the Toolbar dialogue box, select View Toolbars from the pull-down or type TOOLBAR at the keyboard. To display the Dimension toolbar, click in the checkbox against 'Dimension' in the toolbar list. The Linear Dimension Commands As the name suggests the Linear dimension commands are used to dimension along straight lines. There are five linear dimension commands, namely: DIMLINEAR, DIMCONTINUE, DIMBASELINE, DIMALIGNED and DIMROTATED. The DIMLINEAR command is probably the most common dimension command you will use. The Linear Dimension Command Toolbar Pull-down Dimension Linear Keyboard DIMLINEAR You can use this command to generate horizontal and vertical dimensions. Creating a linear dimension is easy. All you have to do is start the command, specify the two points between which you want the dimension to be drawn and pick a point to fix the position of the dimension line. Consider the diagram (right) whilst working through the following examples. Command Sequence Command: DIMLINEAR First extension line origin or press ENTER to select: (pick P1) Second extension line origin: (pick P2) Dimension line location (Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated): (pick a point to position the dimension line, you will see the dimension rubber banding) You may have noticed that the first prompt asks you to pick the first extension line origin or to press the ENTER key. Pressing the Enter/Return key results in the following prompt: Select object to dimension: AutoCAD allows you to dimension an object simply by picking it. |
